Overview
GAZA by Matthew Collings and GAZA, again by Ondrej Drescher are two related exhibitions by Verena Kerfin Gallery that engage artistically with the war against the civilian population in Gaza.
In GAZA, Collings presents ten new paintings that address the human loss caused by military violence — the destruction of families, schools, cultural sites, and everyday life.
Drawing on specific biographies such as that of Heba Zagout, the exhibition reflects on death, grief, and the erasure of individual lives without directly illustrating images of war.
Drescher’s GAZA, again begins at this point and insists on the necessity of a renewed artistic response, because the attacks have not ceased and more and more names are being added to the list of the dead.
At the initiative of the non-attached German Member of the European Parliament Fabio De Masi, these politically engaged exhibitions are now being presented at the European Parliament in Brussels.
